It's easy to see why Jon Bernthal took notes from Thomas Jane's performance as The Punisher in "Dirty Laundry". The short film represented Frank Castle in the best way possible, and it became an inspiration for Bernthal as he took on the role in "Daredevil" Season 2. Now that Frank is getting his own Netflix series, fans are hoping that the show will be on the same level as Phil Joanou's fan film. Will "Marvel's The Punisher" pay tribute to the highly acclaimed "Dirty Laundry"?
Jon Bernthal Namedrops 'Dirty Laundry' As Major Influence In His Performance As The Punisher
Is this really a huge surprise? In his recent (limited due to filming schedules) appearance at the New York Comic-Con, Jon Bernthal revealed that he took in every available material about Frank Castle to prepare for his transformation. This included comic books and the live action films based on The Punisher. Then it sounded like Bernthal admitted which movie he liked best.
"I love 'Dirty Laundry'," Jon Bernthal admitted to the audience (via Screen Geek). He added that watching Frank Castle's movies was his method "to make it as personal as possible," stating that "it was a great pleasure to watch all [The Punisher films]." But is there another reason why Bernthal mentioned the fan film while talking about his Netflix series?
Will 'The Punisher' Series Pay Homage To Thomas Jane's 'Dirty Laundry'?
There is little doubt that 'Marvel's The Punisher' will have plenty of Easter eggs and comic book references. After Jon Bernthal namedropped "Dirty Laundry" at NYCC, fans believe that the Netflix series will feature an homage to the fan film that portrayed Frank Castle perfectly. The show could feature its own DeShawn or Big Mike, or simply show Bernthal getting his laundry done. "The Punisher" is expected to air on Netflix sometime in 2017.
