Shailene Woodley was reportedly arrested for participating in a protest that seemingly threatened the production of a massive oil pipeline project. What seemed to be a noble cause that the artist had did not go quite as expected, but as of the moment, the widespread social media trend has gathered attention for both the parties affected.
In simple terms, Shailene Woodley recorded her entire arrest, live streaming the said incident as it transpired via Facebook. The actress was not the only one that the authorities set their sights on during the said protest.
As per BBC, over 27 others excluding Shailene Woodley were charged with criminal trespass and the instigation of a riot caused by the Dakota Access pipeline project. Naturally, the Native Americans who value the heritage of the land, declaring that proceeding with the said activity will violate the land and ultimately destroy the environment thereafter.
Shailene Woodley defended that she was one of the people who were pinpointed simply because she is a known personality, having over 40,000 people spectators respectively. Despite the others who were present, Woodley said that the police grabbed her jacket and restrained her from going on.
As per CNN, the recently concluded protest that Shailene Woodley was in happened at a construction site over 3.2 kilometers south of the town of St. Anthony. The projected pipeline extension will go over 1,168 miles through Iowa, Illinois all the way to North and South Dakota, stretching through the Bakken Formation.
To those unaware, the Bakken Formation is an underground mass in which Montana and North Dakota link to Canada, southeast towards South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois respectively. Shailene Woodley's motive had the actress standing by her beliefs of wanting to preserve the treasurable culture of the land.
Shailene Woodley was reported to have been released from the county jail not too long after. Some celebrities have spoken out on what they think of Woodley's arrest, in which the actress seemed to take pure pride on standing her ground.
