"24 Legacy," will see the return of a few beloved characters including formidable villains in its upcoming Fox reboot. Latest casting news indicated that Carlos Bernard has agreed to reprise his mercenary role as Tony Almeida.
Avid fans of the hit TV series "24" will soon see Bernard's Tony as a recurring villain in the upcoming Fox reboot "24 Legacy." The actor's casting was confirmed by the series' showrunners Manny Coto and Evan Katz, TVLine reported.
In a press statement, Coto and Katz both expressed their anticipation for Bernard's return to the series. The actor previously portrayed the said villain during earlier episodes of the original series. Bernard's portrayal of the ruthless mercenary was even described as "amazing" by both showrunners.
It appears that Coto and Katz were impressed with the way Bernard depicted the said character's conflicting emotions. Previous episodes of the original series showed the different facets to Tony's personality, from a loving and loyal man to a dangerous and amoral individual.
The actor's confirmed participation marked the first time that a former cast member from the original series agreed to join the Fox reboot. However, many fans are still expecting to see more "24" alums in upcoming episodes.
Meanwhile, details about Tony role in "24 Legacy" has yet to be unveiled. In previous episodes of the original series, Tony served as Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) colleague prior to his transformation as a villain. He also worked alongside a terrorist group in their plans to blackmail the president.
At this time, it is still unclear if Tony will serve as a friend to the Fox reboot's protagonist Eric (Corey Hawkins). However, Coto and Katz, along with co-showrunner Howard Gordon, commented during the show's recent New York Comic-Con panel that viewers should expect to see exciting things from Bernard's Tony according to IGN.
The ruthless mercenary will soon "shake things up" in the upcoming Fox reboot. The showrunners did not elaborate on the said character's role in the series.
"24 Legacy" will premiere on Feb. 5, 2017. Watch the show's trailer below:
