2K Sports is on a constant quest to make "WWE 2K" be as good as possible, and the quest doesn't stop with "WWE 2K17," this year's installment of the franchise they took over from THQ. It's a fine line they're walking, trying to make the game as faithful a representation of professional wrestling as possible—it's a feat that is harder than it looks, because the more they make it look like a simulation, the more it gets boring, but the more it looks like a fighting game with wrestlers, the less it looks like what wrestling fans see on TV.
This year, 2K Sports isn't putting in Showcase Mode in "WWE 2K17," the mode that tells a story of a wrestler or certain time period. Instead, they're making individual matches more memorable by including what they're calling OMG moments.
What are OMG moments, you ask? According to The Bitbag, they're big moves each wrestler in "WWE 2K17" has in their moveset that allow you to turn the tide of the match to your favor and earn some serious momentum. (Basically, a better Signature Move.) Even created wrestlers will be able to have their own OMG moment, as you can pick them from a list when you're building a custom moveset.
OMG moments in "WWE 2K17" include Kevin Owens's patented apron powerbomb, Sasha Banks's double knees from the top rope, and the New Day's stomp stampede. These OMG moments can't be given to any other wrestler in the game, however, but there will be a ton of other moves you can give out to your custom wrestlers. Also included in the OMG system are OMG moments for ladder matches and backstage brawls, emulating special moments we've seen before on WWE shows.
"WWE 2K17" drops on October 11 next week for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. No word yet on whether 2K will release a PC version of the game like they did with "WWE 2K16" earlier this year, but it'll probably arrive in the future. Preorder versions of the game come with WWE and WCW legend Goldberg playable.
