MLB 2K13 "Perfect Game" Challenge Returns with New Rules, More Winners [VIDEO]

2K Sports has added multiple winners and competitive play to MLB 2K13 edition of their annual "Perfect Game Challenge" contest.

Instead of simply rewarding the first player to win a game without an opposing player getting on base, this year smaller cash prizes–$25,000 USD–will be awards players who've played a perfect game one of Major League Baseball's 30 teams. To be considered for a perfect game, the player must use a single pitcher to strikeout at least 27 batters. Of those first-round winners, 2K Sports plans on flying the four best players to New York in July for a tournament during MLB all-star weekend. The tournament winner will win the grand prize, $250,000 dollars.

How is one perfect game better than another, you ask? 2K Sports created an algorythm to determine who pitched the "best" perfect game based on strength of schedule, number of pitches, and other stats for last year's tournament. The contest, which can no longer be called the "Million dollar Challange" for obvious reasons, awarded to the player with the best of the first perfect games.

The contest overhaul comes after last year's tournament were deemed unfair by contestants, due to an exploitable loophole in the contest rules. The game's official rules have yet to be posted, so it's unclear whether or not there will be new ways for players to game the system.

The Perfect Game Challenge begins the moment MLB 2K13 hits stores on March 5th.
