Looking for a new game to pick up this week? Here's an overview of the games coming out the week of February 11th, 2013.
There isn't much question about which game people are most excited for this week with Aliens: Colonial Marines, a game at the top of more than a few 2013 wish lists, finally hitting store shelves this week. Of course, there aren't exactly a whole lot of alternatives: The relatively short list features two other truly new titles—Brain Age: Concentration Training for 3DS, and Impire, a Dungeon Master-style PC strategy game—with a slew of console ports rounding out the set of new offerings.
The real "competition" to watch this week will be a battle of tense horror-shooters. Though there are marked differences between the two—Aliens is a first-person shooter while DS3 is in the third-person. Dead Space 3 emphasizes co-op play, Aliens sports competitive online multiplayer—Aliens: Colonial Marines and last week's major release, Dead Space 3, share an undeniably similar overall appeal, which could leave ACM the game high and dry. Ultimately, the biggest factor, as always, will be how Aliens: Colonial Marines is recieved by the press and the public: Dead Space 3 launched to largely positive reviews, fans planning to get their hands on ACM may pass the game by if it doesn't get the same treatment.
If shooting xenomorphs isn't your cup of tea, maybe you'd prefer a set of brain-teasing mini-games. The Brain Age series may not look quite as exciting as more conventional games at first glance, but you'd be surprised how compelling the idea of training your brain can be once you give it a try.
For PC gamers, Impire looks to update the reverse dungeon-crawler strategy sim sub-genre, or at least give fans a new way to get their fix.
