'American Gods' Air Date, SPOILERS, News & Update: Pablo Schreiber's Mad Sweeney Has Exciting Storyline! Bilquis, Czernobog Origin Story To Be Explored?

Fans of Neil Gaiman's novel can expect to see so much more in the Starz adaptation of "American Gods". There is little doubt that the new series will focus on the adventures of Ricky Whittle's Shadow Moon with Ian McShane's Mr. Wednesday. However, Bryan Fuller's take on the book will also feature more of Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney as well as the other gods. Will the show reveal the tough leprechaun's backstory and his hopeless search for the special token he drunkenly gave to Shadow?

'American Gods' Season 1 To Focus On Mad Sweeney's Backstory? What Happened To Pablo Schreiber's Leprechaun?

In Neil Gaiman's book, Mad Sweeney is the first character Shadow Moon encounters who is connected to the Old Gods (other than Mr. Wednesday). After a brawl, the leprechaun gives Shadow a gold coin. However, it turns out that this little token is one of the most important elements in the story. There is little doubt that Mad Sweeney went through hell just to retrieve the coin in "American Gods".

But what exactly did Mad Sweeney go through before he found Shadow? It's a mystery that Neil Gaiman fans have probably wondered about but never really gave much thought. However, Nerdist reveals that the TV series might explore what happened to Pablo Schreiber's character as he searched for the coin. In addition to that, Mad Sweeney might not be the only character whose backstory will be shown in "American Gods".

'American Gods' To Explore Mad Sweeney, Old Gods Origin Story? Bilquis And Czernobog To Get Bigger Roles?

GamenGuide has previously reported about the shocking Bilquis scene being a huge part of the show's pilot episode. It is also possible that Neil Gaiman's new series will give the goddess a bigger role and perhaps even look into her origin story. There are also speculations that fans will find out what happened to Czernobog's brother when "American Gods" premieres in early 2017.
