There's a new trailer out for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 - Mirror of Fate, and it's a far improved one from the last one we saw, showing Trevor lamenting his fate as a Belmont.
Granted, it's hard to agree with Mercury Steam's claims of "extreme platforming," or "intense whip combat" without some badass musical score for accompaniment, but I will say that as the first Castlevania game to utilie stereographic 3D, Mirror of Fate's backgrounds are incredible, and dwarf any of the past handheld "Metroidvanias."
It's also the first trailer that gives us a look at all four of Fate's playable characters, albeit for a short time. See for yourself below! And make sure you watch it all the way through all the way to the end for a nice little homage to Symphony of the Night.
Fate is set 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and also acts as a precursor to the highly anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. It also represents Nintendo fans their only chance for some good 'ol Castlevania action for the forseeable future, as Lords of Shadow 2 isn't coming to the Wii U.
Players take on the role of classic Belmonts through numerous generations: Trevor, Gabriel, Simon, and Alucard. Each is equipped with unique abilities and skills: Trevor can double-jump, use Light and Shadow magic, and can use unique sub-weapons like the Glaive and Electric Bomb. Simon has different sub-weapons and can summon guardians to fight for him or protect him from harm. And Alucard will be able to turn himself into mist like he could in Symphony of the Night.
Featuring a huge array of combos and a deep strategic combat system, players can use their characters' weapons and magical abilities to take down their evil foes. Fans will traverse through immensely detailed levels and encounter enormous boss fights, all within a unique Nintendo 3DS setting.
"Following the enormous success of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, we wanted to provide fans with the next installment in the Lords of Shadow universe, showcasing all the capabilities that the new Nintendo 3DS platform has to offer," said Dave Cox, Producer on the title and Head of Product Planning and Development for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. "Two years later, we are proud to announce the highly anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, a stunning 3D action adventure title that will give players an unrivaled, intense handheld gaming experience, while shedding light on the lineage and true destiny of the Belmont family."
This game might actually be a tipping point for folks to finally head out and pick themselves up a 3DS.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is set to be released for Nintendo's 3DS and 3DS XL this March.
