PlayStation Network to Continue Maintenance into the Evening

UPDATE - Maintenance Over, PlayStation Network Back Online, Now Accepts PayPal

As promised, Sony has provided an update to the extension for the scheduled maintenance period for the PlayStation Network that begun Thursday morning. The service went down yesterday for an upgrade, and was supposed to be back up last night. Sony let fans know the maintenance was set to continue into the morning, but now, according to a recent tweet, the maintenance is expected to last even longer, continuing into the evening.

"Update: PSN maintenance is requiring more time than expected, and is now expected to complete tonight. We apologize for the inconvenience," Sony informed fans via Twitter, notably disappointing fans.

Sony didn't say what was causing the extension to the maintenance, but expects PSN to remain offline until 9:00pm PST / 12:00am EST tonight. Those show signed into the service fiver days prior to the start of maintenance, may be able to play games online and use select apps during the down time. Europe can expect a similar shutdown as of Feb. 2.
