Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 Release Date, Features, Details, News & Update: Adaptive Lacing Channels ‘Back to the Future’

On Back to the Future Day 2015, or October 22, it was revealed that Nike designer Tinker Hatfield was working on self-lacing shoes, similar to the pair that Michael J. Fox wore in the movie. Hatfield promised that he will be able to showcase the actual Nike self-lacing shoes by spring 2016. Keeping true to his word, the Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 was recently introduced and ready to launch in November 2016.

SlashFilm reported that the Nike Hyperadapt1.0 features the Adaptive Fit Technology. It is a self-lacing sneaker system that includes a tiny motor that will tighten and loosen the cables within the shoe, as necessary. The Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 has a heel sensor that will recognize when the person steps into the shoe, thereby causing the motor to adjust to the wearer's foot. Similar to Michael J. Fox's shoes in "Back to the Future Part II," the Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 also lights up, with the aid of a rechargeable battery system. The battery can last for two weeks before recharging is needed, which lasts about three hours.

Nike came up with a commercial for the Nike Hyperadapt 1.0, describing the shoe as the first performance vehicle for Nike's latest platform breakthrough - adaptive lacing. In terms of appearance, the Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 is does not look like the Nike MAG pair in the movie. Nike explained that Hatfield and Tiffany Beers headed the project, which required several prototypes and trials. They ultimately settled for an underfoot-lacing mechanism.

According to Beers, the Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 is a platform that helps envision a world where the product changes as the athlete changes. Adaptive lacing technology is a huge concept because the shoe can sense what the body actually needs in real time. Overall, performance is enhanced by the mechanism. At present, they are working on an approach where the shoe can get tighter or looser, as athletes execute a quick maneuver.

The shoe designers are optimistic that the technology will continue to develop over time. The Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 will be available on Nov. 28, 2016, although only Nike+ members can avail. There will be three colorways coming.
