John Cena finds himself elevated to the main event once more as he crowds reigning WWE champion AJ Styles and former champion Dean Ambrose for the heavyweight title. The trio will be part of the Triple Threat match which will take place at WWE No Mercy on Oct. 9.
Moving forward, John Cena has all the reason to get involved as he tries to equal Ric Flair’s record of 16 WWE titles. Based on past shows, the hype towards that is hardly felt with focus seemingly directed to Styles and Ambrose.
Odd Man out?
Taking everything in perspective, it seems John Cena is the monkey-wrench that the WWE tossed to aid Styles and Ambrose. The two are proven stars but everyone knows the mileage they can get if the Cenation leader is on board.
That said, John Cena’s casting may be nothing more than to help both Styles and Ambrose who are future stars of the WWE. Of the two, Ambrose may be the one in focus.
Styles is a proven commodity and has been around. His triumph at WWE Backlash 2016 was something no one expected, ESPN reported. Seeing however that SmackDown was getting nowhere, the move was seen nothing more than to spice up interest.
As champion, Ambrose lost his luster. He wasn’t the same suicidal wrestler that many loved and did more time behind the microphone and as a face wrestler. Based on the ratings, all that backfired.
Now, Ambrose finds himself working his way back to earn his keep and the title. He has inadvertently shown signs of a future feud with John Cena as Styles clings on to the belt. Cena can make waves without the belt on his waist so his inclusion is seen nothing more than a bump for either Styles or Ambrose, Bleacher Report reported.
John Cena becoming the champion is possible but something many believe will cause more hurt than an aid to SmackDown. Come Oct. 9, Styles could very well end up still wearing the title while a new rivalry develops featuring the 15-time WWE champion and the “Lunatic Fringe”.
