Long Awaited Level Cap Increase for Borderlands 2 On the Way

Given all the DLC Gearbox has offered at this point, many players are no doubt at the Borderlands 2's level cap. But players needn't worry. According to Borderlands 2's associate producer James Lopez, Gearbox is currently working on increasing the game's level cap.

Speaking with OPM, Lopez said the cap will be "quite a few levels which will allow you play for quite a bit longer."

The quick adjustment comes courtesy of Borderlands online account service, SHiFT. "With Borderlands 1 we had to go by forum posts, and by checking out the number times certain achievements had been unlocked to really get an idea of where players were," he said. "But SHiFT allows us to see a lot more about the way players are playing the game, and see what they're doing."

Lopez also spoke of the newly released DLC, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, which requires players to be at least level 30 to play. You go to Aegrus (a new continent)," he continues, "which has been abandoned, and you go and hunt big game, and while you are there your hunting trip get interrupted by Professor Nakayama, a Hyperion scientist. He's essentially the ultimate Handsome Jack fan, and distraught by, in his eyes, your murdering of Jack. So he wants revenge and to bring back Handsome Jack, so that Hyperion can get back to its former glory"

As far as when players can expect the cap increase, Lopez said it's coming sometime during the year's first quarter, which ends on March 31, so the cap can be expected to arrive by then.

Gearbox has been noticably prompt on delivering changes to Borderlands 2, often early, so there's a chance the increase could come sooner than expected. We'll keep you informed should they say anything else about the increased level cap.
