The coming of "Sherlock" Season 4 is still surrounded with mystery but Steven Moffat continuously gives details that tease the show's fans. The crime drama TV series creator hints that the new installment will emotionally hit its audience.

"We're certainly going to put them through the mill," Steven Moffat told Entertainment Weekly, as per Daily Express. "It's going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times, a tougher series." In "Sherlock" Season 4's first episode, John Watson (Martin Freeman) and Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington) will welcome their first born child.

In "Sherlock" Season 4's second episode, Toby Jones will be seen as Culverton Smith. He will be Sherlock Holmes' (Benedict Cumberbatch) antagonist who will try his best to murder him by using his knowledge in "deadly tropical diseases." In the third episode, there are swirling rumors that Sherlock's third brother, Sherrinford, will be seen and portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. In fact, there might be a "Sherlock" and "The Night Manager" smash-up.

Mark Gatiss Hints 'Sherlock' Season 4 Bears A Clue That Fans Didn't See

Meanwhile, co-creator Mark Gatiss teased that fans might all have the clue regarding "Sherlock" Season 4, but they only don't see it, as per Movie Pilot. The "Mycroft Holmes" star said at the Victoria & Albert Museum that people often see things that aren't there and miss the obvious that are waiting to be seen. In fact, he insinuated that "Sherlock" Season 4 is the result of their well scrutinized and meticulously formed ideas.

Mark Gatiss described "Sherlock" Season 4 as the outcome of the things that they have long-planned for a number of years. The 49-year-old screenwriter also slammed the reports that the death of Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is based on "Grimm" fairytale by saying that it definitely won't happen. As everything is still under wraps, BBC has yet to announce the coming of "Sherlock" Season 4, but it is believed to be out on New Year's Day 2017.
