The Nintendo NX is drawing closer to officially launching and rumors continue to circulate about the device's form and features. Recent talks surfaced that the Nintendo NX will be a hybrid between a console and handheld device. Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokemon Company, shared his insight on the developing product.
Ishihara mentioned during an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the Nintendo NX is trying to change the concept of what a handheld device or home console device should be. He added that The Pokemon Company will be making games for the upcoming product. Perhaps Ishihara was suggesting that the Nintendo NX will be a mix between the two current-generation systems, although it is unknown whether he has any insider information on the development. Nintendo partly owns The Pokemon Company, but Ishihara may merely be going with the previous news that the Nintendo NX will feature a hybrid design.
News of the Nintendo NX started in 2015 when the company announced its development. There is a huge possibility that a core handheld Pokemon game will be created for the Nintendo NX. Previously, several spin-off Pokemon titles have been launched on handheld devices, although there has yet to be a core game that will launch the franchise further. "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was postponed to release together with the Nintendo NX.
Digital Trends wrote that the Nintendo NX is a mobile device that can be taken by players anywhere. They can dock the device at home and conveniently play it as a regular console. The device may feature detachable controllers and will debut the first split D-pad and a Share button, similar to the Sony PlayStation 4. The product will include its own display with two detachable controllers on both sides, so two players can enjoy games on the go. The system may also feature the return of cartridges, together with digital downloads.
The Nintendo NX may be powered by the NvidiaTegra mobile processor, a new operating system and a storage space of 32GB. It is scheduled to launch on Mar. 31, 2016. An official reveal event was said to have been scheduled for September or October 2016. More updates and details are expected soon.
