There are reports that the main issue with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus may involve the new A10 processor. The two smartphones only released recently, but users have been complaining about a hissing sound when the devices are used heavily. The sound stems from within the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and not from the speaker system.
International Business Times cited iPhone 7 user and Relay FM co-founder Stephen Hackett in reporting that his unit makes terrible noises when under load. Several other iPhone 7 users followed and shared their noise experiences on social media. There are some who noted that the processor sound is normal for CPUs or that the noise may be caused by the Taptic Engine. Hackett already contacted AppleCare, the company's warranty and technical support department, which advised him to visit an Apple Store to have his iPhone 7 replaced.
However, the handsets were out of stock so he had to wait five to seven business days. It is still unclear whether the hissing sound is due to the A10 processor. But Apple is currently willing to replace initially released iPhone 7 units for free if these are proven to have a defective part. Despite the audible noise, the iPhone 7 still functions properly. Users should not be concerned about their iPhone 7 getting ruined by the sound.
Telegraph revealed that the new A10 Fusion processor of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is the root of the problem. The A10 improves the power of the iPhone 7 compared to the iPhone 6s by 40 percent and by 100 percent when compared to the iPhone 6. The processor includes efficiency cores that can run on low power when doing common activities.
The hissing sound comes out when the iPhone 7 processes large files or programs. The sound basically comes from the chip itself, which does not have a fan. According to iOS developer Marco Arment, the noise is the phone equivalent of hearing a Mac's CPU fans adjust to its actual potential. More updates and details on the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected soon.
