Tom Brady continued to etch his name into the NFL record books as the New England Patriots routed the Houston Texans 42-27 Sunday in the Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs.
The win earned the Patriots their second consecutive trip to the AFC Championship game and Brady's seventh trip overall. He is 5-1 in his six previous appearances in the penultimate game of the NFL season.
Brady completed 29 of 39 passes for 337 yards with four touchdowns and one interception against Houston. Wes Welker caught 10 passes for 94 yards and Stevan Ridley ran 16 times for 74 yards.
The Texans opened the playoff game with an 11-play scoring driving that ended in 41-yard Shayne Graham field goal to make the game 3-0.
On the drive, Texans' running back Arian Foster had runs of 25, and 21, but the Patriots defense stiffened up and stuffed the running back on a 3-and-1. Foster rushed for 108 yards on 18 carries, but the Texans were forced to pass for most of the second half.
Houston quarterback Matt Schaub was 22 of 44 for 256 yard with two touchdowns and four turnovers including three interceptions and a fumble.
Brady took the Patriots 80 yards down the field and into the endzone on their first possession of the game. He was perfect 5-for-5 on the drive, including a six-yard touchdown hook up with tight end Rob Gronkowski.
On the Texans ensuing drive, Chandler Jones hit Schaub as he tried to throw, and the ball floated into the hand of defensive back Patrick Chung, who intercepted the pass and ran it into the endzone to give New England a 14-3 lead.
Things continued to go bad for Houston as Schaub was again intercepted on the very next drive. The two teams when into the locker room for halftime with the Patriots up 35-17 on the Texans.
