Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Gets a Release Date, Coming to Wii U

After hearing that neither Crysis 3 or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 won't be coming to the Wii U, it's nice to hear that at least one game developer hasn't left Nintendo's new console out in the cold.

Activision today confirmed that their Walking Dead title, Survival Instinct, will be released for the Wii U. What's more, it will utilize the console's touch screen system to help players manage their inventory.

Survival Instinct's producer Glenn Gamble told Digital Spy, "We didn't want to change the game, because the game had already been established, so we tried to say, 'What can we augment with the Wii U version?'"

"That's where it's basically a more elegant inventory management system. With the Wii U you have access to your backpack at all times, so you can tap what weapons you want, you can drop stuff. It's a lot more streamlined."

Activision hasn't released many details for the story, only that it's based more on the "Walking Dead" TV show. It follows the Dixon brothers as they embark on a "haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta." Both Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker will voice their respective characters.

Like any good post-apocalyptic game, item management will be a necessary skill, no doubt made a little easier for Wii U players. Resources like ammunition, food, supplies, etc., will be extremely scarce.

Players will have the option to choose between taking the undead head on, or using stealth to avoid detection. As a press release describes, "No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world."

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will launch on March 29 on Wii U, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
