With movies, television shows, a traveling theme park, and God only knows how many titles, the Nintendo franchise that's second only to Mario has a lot going for it.
But according to Go Nintendo, Nintendo has something planned for the franchise. The official Japanese site added a block on the site telling fans that an announcement is coming in just a few days.
Given their wide array of products, ranging from collectible figurines, card games, and a million other things, it's hard to discern what the announcement could be related to.
My money's on Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles, but more likely is something related for Nintendo's new console, the Wii U. The tablet controller could add some interesting features to the Pokedex, not to mention a wide array of options for gameplay. Besides, Nintendo needs something to keep excitment going for both the franchise, and the new console. The Wii U didn't sell up to the company's expectations, despite the holiday going, so maybe this could bring some new interest to both Pokemon and the console as well.
Whatever the announcement is, we'll have to wait to find out. Nintendo has the announcement planned for this Tueday, Jan. 8. Check back here Tuesday for more details.
Since the franchise's first debut on Game Boy in 1996, cumulative sales of all games on all available consoles have gone on to sell over 200 million copies, making them some of the most popular, and successful series of games of all time.
