Defiance Release Date: Trion Announces A PC Exclusive Beta Starting Later This Month

Defiance, the open-world shooter from Trion and SyFy will be entering a brief beta phase later this month exclusively for PC gamers.

The Advanced Mission Beta 1 will begin on Jan. 18, as PC players will be able to take part in a futuristic war set in a crumbling and ruined version of San Francisco, as genetically modified Ark-hunters.

Since the devastation of the Arkfall catastrophe, these modified humans search the Earth in search of valuable Votan artifacts to sell to the highest bidder. The Ark-hunters are treasure hunter and guns for hire in this new version of earth. They are said to be "fearless, dedicated and lethal."

Player interested in signing up for the bet should head over to the Von Bach Industries website, which features more information about the beta, the Defiance universe and a live-action video that explains the motivations of the fictitious weapons company.

According to the site, Von Bach Industries created that satellite that first detected the Alien Votans and have provided the inhabitants of Earth with weapons and munitions to protect the planet.

Here is a statement from Von Bach industries' webpage: "Our advances in Votan-hybrid weaponry and tangible bionetics are allowing frontier professionals to salvage more valuable Arktech than ever before. On the ever-changing new frontier, you're either armed by Von Bach Industries, or you're not armed."

The beta will run through Jan. 20 and the full retail version of the game is expected to launch in April for Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The SyFy television series of the same name will debut a couple of weeks after the video game.
