Trailer for Walking Dead: Survival Instinct was Unofficial

There's a reason why Activision's recent trailer for Survival Instinct was so...blah. Evidently, it was a fan job thrown together from a reveal meant for IGN.

The team's PR team spoke with Giant Bomb, saying, "That trailer that's going around on 'TWDSurvivalInstinct' channel isn't official," the rep told us, "It is a fan edit. It looks like they pulled gameplay from the first reveal which was on IGN's Up at Noon last week."

The team claimed the trailer used footage from a very early build of the game, was missing sound effects, and did little to seperate it from any other FPS zombie game. It also lacked the voicing of Michael Rooker and Norman Reedus, who are lending their vocal talents to help bring life to the title.

You can check out the trailer here, but don't worry if you don't watch, you're really not missing anything.

Activision hasn't released many details for the story, only that it's based more on the "Walking Dead" TV show. It follows the Dixon brothers as they embark on a "haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta."

Like any good post-apocalyptic game, item management will be a necessary skill. Resources like ammunition, food, supplies, etc., will be extremely scarce.

Players will have the option to choose between taking the undead head on, or using stealth to avoid detection. As a press release describes, "No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world."

With this latest development, hopefully Activision will release some more information, maybe even an official trailer, in an effort to do some damage control.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is set to be released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
