Crystal Dynamics Confirms Multiplayer in Tomb Raider Reboot

As previously listed by a particular UK retailer, Crystal Dynamics confirmed the rumor that multiplayer will indeed be a mode in their Tomb Raider reboot.

Official Xbox Magazine was first to spill the beans, declaring the reveal in a tweet.

The studio's Global Brand Director Karl Stewart later confirmed the news in a tweet of his own, stating, "OK, so after all the speculation..yes it's true...Check out@OXM for all the info on @tombraider's new multiplayer." Looks like we really will be able to "Play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara's Shipmates or Yamatai's Scavengers."

OXM Online will be the first to get a peek at the Tomb Raider's multiplayer, and according to the mag's site, they'll be sharing the details when the next issue hits retail stores and newstands on Jan. 8.

Brought life by Camilla Luddington, this generation's Tomb Raider is very different from the T-Rex blasting adventurer who debuted so many years ago.

Instead of the ass kicking aristocrat who emerged from the first PlayStation, this game will is set to explore "the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold." Creative director Noah Hughes recently spoke about the new Lara Croft, and what fans can expect from her.

Tomb Raider releases Mar. 5 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. A Collector's Edition is now available for pre-order.
