Online shooters just aren't my thing. Generally, I can get through the one player campaigns easily enough, but when it comes to playing against actual people, apart from all the sh*t talking, I find myself waiting to respawn more often than I actually play.
For folks like me, tips are sorely needed, which is why I was more than happy when Black Ops 2's design director David Vonderhaar gave gamers a couple of tips via Official PlayStation Magazine UK.
First off, "you need to be super-flexible within a single map," according to Vonderhaar. "Black Ops 2 is a very fast-paced game and there's a lot of close-range engagements, but there are also some interesting maps such as Turbine and Drone that have some healthy long-range distances. But they also have interiors..."
As for equipment, here are his preferred choices.
1. something with a high rate of fire and high damage like the SCAR-H or Type 25 Assault Rifle as a primary weapon
2. Extended Clip Attachment
3. Select Fire Attachment, "where pressing left on the D-pad changes between burst and auto-firing and makes you deadly at both distances."
4. B23R Pistol as a secondary weapon
5. Trophy System in the Tactical slot, "eliminating any enemy projectiles that come within ten metres of [where it's been placed]."
There's the offensive stuff. Vonderhaar continued into protection.
6. Flak Jacket from Tier 1 Perks "provides protection from explosives" -
7. Tactical Mask from Tier 3 "which cancels out the effects of Flashbangs, Concussion Grenades and Shock Charges"
Lastly...
8. + 9. Grenades in both the Primary and Secondary Lethal slots, granted by the...
10. Danger Close Wildcard
According to Vonderhaar, "What I've traded out here is my Tier 2 Perk and a Tactical slot in order to double down on firepower and explosive damage. This is a great loadout for capture the flag if you're a defender, as it boasts both flexibility and range."
So there it is, the developer's perfect, or perhaps preferred, online build. Think I'll go give it a try.
Aaaand I'm dead. I suppose it only works well if your skill is up to snuff with your gear, believe me. Ah well, thanks anyway Mr. Vonderhaar.
Since its release, Black Ops 2 has managed to gross over $1 billion, which is just another milestone for the shooter. Shortly after the game's launch, it was revealed that Black Ops 2 managed to set records as Amazon's most pre-ordered game ever. It also managed to hit a sell-through of over $500 million worldwide in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Chart-Track, and GameStop president Tony Bartel wrote that the retailer sold more than 1 million units worldwide, and that "'Black Ops II' is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time." It currently stands as one of the most played online games on about every major platform.
