With Golden State Warriors contending for another finals this 2016-17 NBA season, the only thing needing discussion is two-time MVP Stephen Curry. Question: Can Curry get better with four-time scoring champion Kevin Durant around?
Looking back at the last season, Curry attained everything that a great player covets. First, he became the first unanimously voted MVP in NBA history. Curry also shattered his own three-point made records every year with 402 at the conclusion of 2015-16 NBA season. He then adds the record for most steals in a single season. Further his Golden State State Warriors achieved record for 73 wins in a regular season, according to his NBA profile.
Best of all achievements in the previous season is traversing the very elite 50-40-90 club where he joins Steve Nash and coach Steve Kerr. This very rare stats quantify Curry's 50 percent from the perimeter, 45 percent accuracy from the three-point arc and 90 percent from the free throw lane. Meaning, a player that can pull these stats is a very deadly player that can make or break a game.
Now with Durant in the Warriors' equation, Curry might have a hard time replicating last year. Curry himself said that there are no sacrifices to be made with the current Warriors setup and no changes in the gameplay either. However, piling up statistics to retain or improve from last year is now harder for Curry. According to SF Gate, what Curry can do is not limited to retention of 30 points per game average but in improving accuracy.
What could be a fun pastime for Curry this 2016-17 season is setting a new barometer for shooting accuracy. If 50-40-90 is the current ceiling, Curry has the luxury to shatter this record starting at the opener this October. Durant playing for the Warriors is not a bad omen after all but a blessing in disguise to free some pressure for this season's MVP candidate.
