Before Gearbox reduced one of the gaming heroes of the 90's into an expensive paperweight with the poorly received Duke Nukem Forever, the titular hero was actually capable of a decent game, believe it or not.
One of which was Duke Nukem 3D, which was actually more than decent. The FPS was chock full of humor, naughty bits for adults, and some creative weapons. If you never had the pleasure of playing the game, GOG is now giving you the chance.
They're offering Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition as a free download for both PC and Mac. According to their overview: "Duke Nukem, the politically incorrect celebrity and ultimate alien ass kicker, defends Earth and its babes from alien invasion. He is a can-do hero who realizes that sometimes innocent people have to die in order to save Earth, so accuracy of gun fire is not a real concern to him. This is the award winning game that helped define the FPS genre and introduced unparalleled interactivity and a talking main character. Take the fight to the aliens in Hollywood, Los Angeles, a moon base and alien spacecraft. Defeat the aliens, so Duke can get back to some R&R with a stogie, a warm belly and a bottle of Jack. Atomic Edition is the most complete version of the game that includes fourth bonus episode, new weapon and enemies."
The price is obviously right, so if you've got time to kill, take a trip back in time when Duke and his balls of steel ruled the genre, and when his voice actor John St. John wasn't reduced to reading lines from mommy porn.
The clock is ticking though, as GOG is only offering the free download until Dec. 14. If you haven't downloaded the game come 9:30 AM (EST), you're S.O.L.
