Diablo 3 For Consoles Is Real, But Will Blizzard Release It?

Somewhere hidden deep inside an unknown area of the Blizzard Entertainment offices is a working unspecified-console version of the action-RPG Diablo III, according to Blizzard executive Rob Pardo.

In a recent interview with Polygon, Prado said that the developer has not yet decided what to do with the console version.

"We're still kind of exploring it," Pardo said. "We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool."

According to the article, Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson reiterated that the team is exploring its options for the console version while adding and expanding the game.

"The whole team is essentially working on the next big Diablo thing," Wilson told Polygon. "A lot of that stuff will show up next year at some point."

Earlier this year in an interview with CVG, Leonard Boyarski, senior world designer expressed similar sentiments about a console version of Diablo III saying that Blizzard is "continuing to explore possibilities."

Diablo III is currently available for the Mac and Windows PC operating systems and is the fastest selling PC game to date. The game has sold 10 million copies, including 3.5 million during its first day of release and 6.3 million in its first week.

Diablo III has received positive reviews since its release and currently holds a score of an 87.64 percent on review aggregating website, GameRankings. On Metacritic the game has an 88-out-of-100 score based on 86 reviews.

Polygon gave Diablo III a perfect score and says, "Games this thoughtfully crafted don't happen very often, and the care that Blizzard has taken with Diablo 3 shows in every facet of its design and execution. It might not be perfect, but after 45 hours, I'm not sure where it missteps, and after 45 hours, I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what it has to offer. Diablo 3 is almost evil in how high a bar it's set for every PC action RPG to follow, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that bar remain for a very long time."
