Electronic Arts has been teasing its fans of the free-to-play mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out with hints about the title's next themed update.
"There's snow in Springfield! Time to get in the festive spirit with all-new yuletide décor for our Holiday update," EA announced on the game's official Facebook page.
Well it is here now and gamer's fictional Springfield is covered in snow and their trees are leafless and withered. The update brings new characters, costumes, locations, activities, new quest and holiday decorations.
The holiday update is more along the lines of the Halloween update, which means it is much better than a few Thanksgiving float of a three eyed fish or a violent homicidal cat.
The holiday update adds a new currency called "Santa Coins" that can be used to purchase holiday themed items such as decorations or famous locations from the long-running animated series.
Some of the new buildings included in the update are the Try-N-Save, Barney's Bowl-a-Rama , the Mapple Store and Christmas themed versions of previous buildings like Christmas Willie's Shack.
Players can perform holiday jobs that earn them more Santa coins including making Homer pretend to Ski, Marching Bart as a Martha Stewart created Nutcracker, and Make Flanders take Rod and Tod Snowmobiling.
Players will be able to unlock characters like Barney, Sideshow Mel, the Funzos, Doctors and Santa's Little Helper.
For those that do not know, The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a free-to-play building game that lets gamers customize their own Springfield and complete various task and quest in order to earn doughnuts, which can be used to purchase special items and characters.
Here is the game's official synopsis:
"D'OH! Homer accidently caused a meltdown that wiped out Springfield. Now, it's up to you to rebuild it.
From the writers of The Simpsons, tap into a city building game that lets you create your own living, breathing Springfield...for FREE.
Recreate Springfield just like you want it, as you help Homer find Marge, Bart and the rest of his family and friends. Complete comic quests like making Apu work ridiculously long shifts at Kwik-E-Mart, growing and harvesting Tomacco on Cletus's Farm, partying down with Duffman at Duff Brewery, and more. Finish jobs and tasks to earn currency and...mmm, donuts.
You can even get social and visit your friends' versions of Springfield. Make mischief and play pranks on their towns to collect cash. But remember, they can do the same to you."
The game is available for free in the iTunes store and was originally released in March. Gamers who have an older iOS device may not be able to play the game. Here is a statement from the game's Facebook page:
"If you have a 1st and 2nd generation iPhone and iPod touch, you may not be able to play the Simpsons. We are constantly improving our games for the amazing new products that run them, and look forward to sharing our amazing new content with you once you have upgraded your device. If you've created an Origin account, your Springfield will be waiting for you when you get a new device."
