"Pokemon Go" seems to be staying in a status quo after its phenomenal release a few months ago and it looks like "Harry Potter Go" might dethrone it from the number one spot. The unexpectedly warm global welcome of augmented-reality games may have purported to the creation of "Harry Potter Go." Will the widely-clamored game be a reality?
Making a game, especially based on a very popular theme and brand is not as easy as it looks or sounds. First of all, there must be a thorough discussion and consensus between the writer and creator of the brand, J.K. Rowling, and the developers of the augmented-reality game, Niantic. Copyrights and royalties are just some of the nitty-gritty details that must be discussed to officially release "Harry Potter Go."
There was a report circulating a few weeks ago saying that Niantic has already secured the rights for a "Harry Potter Go" game. Sadly, these too good to be true reports were debunked leaving the excited Potterheads back to square one. If the making of "Harry Potter Go" will push through, it will take the players to the world of magic, spells and wizardry.
Although there are no exciting developments regarding the discussion between J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros., and Niantic, it might be too early for the fans to feel disappointed. Notably, the idea of "Pokemon Go" only came out of an April Fool's joke in 2014. If "Harry Potter Go" might not happen soon, fans can still hold out a couple years more, right?
As of now, the materialization of "Harry Potter Go" will have to be determined but the fans' clamor may play a big role in the game's creation. Perhaps when time comes when "Pokemon Go" is already on a downhill slope, Niantic might open its doors for the creation of "Harry Potter Go."
