Far Cry 3 Release Date: Ubisoft Says The Game Will Not Support Dedicated Servers

Far Cry 3, the upcoming open-world first-person shooter from Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will release on Dec. 4 in North America. But according to Ubisoft via a GameSpot report, the game will not support dedicated servers.

"The online experience does not support dedicated servers," the company said. "Of course we are not trying to kill the PC community. We have simply decided on a different way of handling multiplayer. We weighed the different options against each other to see what worked best, and what we came up with worked very well even without [dedicated servers]."

According to the Gamespot report, Ubisoft has also said that the reasoning behind not including dedicated servers for Far Cry 3 is not due to concerns of PC piracy.

Far Cry 3 leaves behind the African savannahs and muggy swamps of the series' second entry and takes place on a tropical island. Player will take on the role of a stranded tourist named Jason Brody, who has been separated from his girlfriend and is in his search of her.

The game will feature open-world gameplay and will include elements from role-playing games including experience points, skill tree and crafting system. In an interview with UK game magazine via BeefJack.com, narrative director Jason VandenBerghe said the game's scale would be larger than ever before.

"If you look at the vistas and the scale of Far Cry 1 and 2, take that and multiply it by ten," VandenBerghe told Edge. "We want to take that even further," he continued. "We're focusing on taking that scale and making it dense, so that around every corner there's something to find or see."

Here is a list of the game's features from its official website:
