Lou Holtz said "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song." And for Rovio's Angry Birds, it's a not so much a song as it is a war cry.
The ear-grating "HEEEYAAAAHHH" cried by the trademark avian menace is far from the kind of sweet bird song we hope to wake to come morning, and is more akin a rooster's crow, calling farmer's to work. Suffice it to say, it's a rather rude wake up call indeed.
Enter Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà, who have chosen the music and theme of Angry Birds as their latest work making way into their newest album, "Game Music." Rovio has even provided animation for Dubeau & Pietà's track. Check it out below!
Considered one of the most prominent violin virtuosos in Canada since she was 15, Angèle Dubeau has garnered multiple awards over the years. She is one of the rare classical violinists in the world to have been awarded gold records. She has already sold over 500,000 albums in her career. Driven by a constant desire to innovate, Angèle Dubeau founded La Pietà, an all-female string orchestra featuring some of Canada's best musicians, in 1997.
Given such accomplishments, the composer of Angry Birds theme, Ari Pulkkinen, was obviously very happy that Dubeau had chosen to re-enact his theme, saying, "I'm honored and proud that Angry Birds music inspires children, performers and musicians like Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà to perform their own artistic arrangement of the theme."
Since it's release by RovioMobile in 2009, the original Angry Birds and all its additions have reached (cumulatively) over one billion downloads. Angry Birds has since branched out onto virtually everything with a screen, be it home consoles, PC's, e-readers, and so on, with new episodes and spin-offs, and now, even plush toys and a clothing line.
Last year, Rovio said it generated $106 million in revenue. About 30% of that came from licensing agreements and sales of merchandise like Commonwealth's plush toy line, as well as red-bird squeeze pillows, board games, and Halloween costumes. A true success story, Commonwealth now receives dozens of licensing offers from app developers each month
"Game Music" features works associated with famous games such as Tetris, Final Fantasy, Halo 3, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed and Angry Birds, as well as others heard in Chrono Trigger, Heavy Rain and Secret of Mana.
The album is available for digital download now, as well as on CD, and can be found on iTunes. And if you're a fan of Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà, make sure to check out Lindsey Stirling as well.
