It's been confirmed that Ryu Hayabusa's student, Momiji, will be playable in the Wii U version of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. Nintendo released a trailer showing the ninja decimating opponents with her Naginata and Ninpo. Check it out below!
The only catch is that Momiji will only be playable in the game's Challenge and Ninja Trials modes. She'll be added as free DLC next month, following the game's release in a few days.
As a student of Ryu's many of her moves are comparable to his, with a few exceptions and alterations here and there. As such, she should be relatively easy for seasoned players to pick up.
Originally released on PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 this past March, Ninja Gaiden 3 added a few new abilities to the game, like the Kunai climb system which allowed Ryu tol climb walls utilizing his Kunai and attack from above, as well as a new stealth system. Ryu can sneak up on enemies and defeat them in a single blow. Developers also took Ninpo to a new level, like the Ninpo attack that turned Ryu turning into a giant, flame breathing dragon. Rather than killing opponents though, it brings them to their knees as they beg for their lives. Ryu then has the choice to kill them or save them, playing into the game's morality.
Despite additions, the game didn't perform up to fan standards. Fans accused the studio of abandoning the hardcore fanbase by dropping the series traditionally challenging gameplay in an attempt to make the game more appealing to newcomers. It currently holds a rating of 58 at metacritic.
After fan complaints about the lack of violence, Team Ninja decided to re-institute the dismemberment system, which will be seen in Razor's Edge. Perhaps this new version can not only satisfy fans' bloodlust, but bring back some of the glory for the ninja.
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge releases on the Nintendo Wii U Nov. 18.
