Activision released Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified on the PlayStation Vita handheld console earlier this week to coincide with the release of Black Ops II on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game takes place between the story arch of the first two Black Ops titles and features single player, multiplayer and hostile modes.
So far the handheld Call of Duty game has received scathing reviews from critics since its release. So far the game holds a rating of 25 percent on aggregator website GameRanking, but it should be noted that the accumulated score is currently based on just two reviews. The game has fared slightly better on aggregator site Metacritic, where the game has an accumulated score of a 29-out-of-100 that is based on four critics reviews.
Here is what some of the critics are saying about Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified:
Game Informer says in its review for the game, "Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified is appalling. In dramatic fashion, it completely fails to live up to the high bar of quality gamers expect from the Call of Duty name. I can't recommend Declassified to anyone; casual FPS players and Call of Duty fans alike will recognize the train wreck Nihilistic Software has developed." Game Informer gave the game a 3-out-of-10 score.
Gaming site Giant Bomb says in its review for the game that the game is plagued with technical issues including multiplayer connectivity and a lack of audio. Giants Bomb says, "so it's a bad game on its own, but the technical issues really twist the knife already buried in Declassified's dark heart. Allow me to remind you that this game is $50. Do not buy this game for $50." The website gives the game 1-out-of-five stars.
Metro UK says that the game is a "shamefully underdeveloped shooter" in its review. The website list several cons for the game including poor single-player modes, lack of a story, small multiplayer maps and technical issues. Metro UK scores the game a 3-out-of-10.
IGN has not yet released its review for the game because the website was waiting for copies of the new handheld shooter to arrive from Activision. Surprisingly several well established gaming site have yet to post a review for the game.
