The recently announced film adaptation of the video game Assassin's Creed starring Michael Fassbender could be out next year.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz reported via IGN, Ubisoft's chief sales and marketing officer Geoffroy Sardin spoke about the future of the franchise now that the latest video game in the series Assassin's Creed III has been successfully launched.
"Another thing that is very important for the lifecycle is the transmedia offer," Sardin said. "All the figurines, the books, the publishing, and we have a movie in the next coming year. So it's not only about games, we are talking about a global brand, and this is the life cycle management we want to set up now."
IGN points out that Sardin's statement could mean the film could be going into production in 2013 with it likely coming out in 2014 or he could actual mean the film will release in theaters next year.
Sardin also spoke about the marketing that went into Assassin's Creed III's advertisement campaign and the longevity of the new game through downloadable content.
"We decided with the team to use new media with the cinema," Sardin told GamesIndustry. "We supported in the summertime a huge campaign of advertising in the cinema, using a new type of communication based on the Rise campaign, a short movie using new emotions in our communication for the brand. It was brand new and well executed."
"We announced a season pass [for DLC] and it was the first time we've done that for the Assassin's Creed brand. It could grant a better life cycle for sure," Sardin said.
Assassin's Creed III is now available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC release will follow on Nov. 20, while a Wii U version will be available at the consoles launch on Nov. 18. You can check out our casting list for the "Assassin's Creed" movie here.
