Netflix has yet to renew "Stranger Things" for a second season, but it is very likely that the show will get an approval soon. Netflix executives stated that it would not be smart if they did not let the 1983-set sci-fi/horror series go for another run. The creators of "Stranger Things" have allegedly started work on the next storyline already, particularly giving justice for Barbara "Barb" Holland, played by Shannon Purser.
During an interview with IGN, Matt and Ross Duffer talked about the fate of Barb. According to the Duffer brothers, it is unlikely that the character will come back in "Stranger Things" Season 2, after she was taken and devoured by the monster.
Matt said that Barb will not be forgotten and they will guarantee that she will have some form of justice in the next story of "Stranger Things." He continued that viewers will obviously be frustrated to know that Barb is truly gone and the town apparently failing to do anything about it. Matt confirmed that they will not provide any screen time for that aspect and that they partly aim to explore the consequences of everything that happened in the upcoming plot of "Stranger Things."
Deadline stated that Barb is actually appeared in two episodes on "Stranger Things" Season 1, but she immediately developed to become the most celebrated character. Her 1980's appearance was one of her most unique traits, but fans will have to set their sights on another character in "Stranger Things" Season 2 if they wish to maintain the nostalgia.
The Duffer brothers also mentioned that Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine), the main villain in "Stranger Things," will most likely coming back in Season 2. He seemed to have been killed off at the end of the first season, but the show creators stated that it would be very unsatisfying if Brenner merely died at the hands of the extra-terrestrial monster. The character reportedly deserves a much better ending, so fans should expect to see him return in "Stranger Things" soon. The official announcement and launch date of "Stranger Things" Season 2 are expected soon.
