Long Lost Mascot Revealed as Boss of PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale

The PlayStation blog revealed today the veritable master mind who decided to assemble such a seemingly random group of Sony and various other third-party characters.

For the younger crowds, that unsightly head seen above is the aptly named Polygon Man, an insulting mass of, well...polygons...that lived as an ad campaign during the "attiude" era of the mid-90's. Granted, he looks rather poor, but in 1995, he was pretty appealing in that oh-so-rugged sort of way. After approximately three months, Polygon Man went the way of Max Headroom, abandoned, and thankfully forgotten by everyone except those with a penchant for hoarding old videogame magazines. Since then, he appears to have been pulling the strings of PlayStation's new crew of characters to duke it out amongst themselves, likely out of jealousy. Now, how a lone head can pull strings is beyond me, but I'm betting that in addition to taking the Smash Brothers concept, he probably borrowed its hand as well.

Polygon Man was quickly replaced as a mascot by the likes of Crash Bandicoot. As the bandicoot didn't seem to have the charm of say, an Italian plumber or a speedy blue hedgehog, Crash to seems to have been seemingly abandoned (though I wouldn't be surprised if he appeared in Royale in one way or another).

Polygon man makes an almost-appearance at the end of the game's opening, which PlayStation blog was kind enough to share today. Check it out below!

Whether playable or not, Polygon Man's addition to All Stars brings the character count to 21 (the complete list of playable characters can be seen here).

Players take their pick from the numerous All-Stars in "smashing" their Sony "brothers" in a "brawling" "melee" free for all. In addition to offering a tournament mode, special event battles, and custom matches, there will also be a story mode featuring a God only knows what kind of twisted storyline bringing a crew like this all together.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is out for PlayStation 3 on Nov. 20.
