Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in a Nintendo Direct livestreams spoke about some of the Wii U's functionality and the company's new online service, Miiverse, according to a report by IGN.
Gamers who fire-up the Wii U will be prompted to create a Miiverse account. Gamers can create up to ten accounts on their consoles with each one containing save game data, browser bookmarks and other information.
According to Nintendo's official site's description of the Miiverse:
"Miiverse is a brand-new online gaming community that is built directly into the Wii U console. It lets you share experiences, discuss games and discover new content with gamers from around the world. Using your Mii character within Miiverse, you will see games, applications or entertainment content that either you have used recently, expressed interest in learning more about or that your friends are using or discussing."
From here you can challenge your friends to play together, ask a question about a difficult level or discover new elements of your favorite games that you never knew existed. After a notable achievement or other share-worthy moment, you can pause your game or application and seamlessly post messages to the Miiverse community."
IGN says, "Iwata also demonstrated how Miiverse will provide a helpful, informative community while playing specific games. Say you only get a silver medal on a level in New Super Mario Bros. Wii U. You can now turn to the Miiverse community for advice on how to claim gold next time. If you die several times, you'll be asked to talk about your frustration on Miiverse."
From the description provided by IGN, it seems that the new service will act as a social network slash tip hotline. It will allow gamers to follow helpful and reliable contributors and even block out comments that may contain spoilers about the game.
The article mentions that Iwata said Miiverse functionality could be integrated easily without and additional effort from video game developers. Hopefully meaning that more game studios will utilize the feature.
