Dead Island Returns With A Sequel - Dead Island: Riptide

Techland-developed open world video game Dead Island is coming up with a sequel to the earlier one released Sept. 2011 - Dead Island: Riptide.

The sequel to be bought out will have a different take on the "Zombies in paradise" premise from the first game, Gamingbolt reported.

There will be a fifth playable character for the game - John Morgan, who is a self-trained "master in hand to hand combat." He joins as a cook for a military ship after his plans of joining the Navy go awry. Other characters which players can choose from are Sam B, Logan, Xian Mei, or Purna.

The game will get a new area called Henderson, a town that is situated on the island of Palanai in the Banoi archipelago.

Monsoons have laid waste to the place and the team has to search for high ground as creatures plague the waters.

The story of the game starts from where Dead Island left off.

The survivors find themselves on an island that is run over by zombies.

A teaser trailer of the game was posted on Dead Island's Facebook page Sept. 19. The trailer received mixed reactions.

"Halfway through development [of Dead Island], somebody at Techland decided the best way to advertise all this was a trailer which details the final, stirring moments of a Colgate family, caught in the zombie uproar." "Does the Riptide trailer paint a more faithful picture? I doubt it - screenshots suggest that the flesh-mulching takes precedence once again - but by all means get your hanky good and damp," said Official Xbox Magazine.

The game is targeted for an April 2013 release for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.
