The headlines have been plagued by the expected upcoming launch of the iPhone 7 though there is still something due to follow in the Fall - the Apple Watch 2.
This is with reference to the Apple Watch 2, something that has been overlooked by many. Like most of the Apple products that are (and will come) out, the wearable is not lacking in impressive features for potential buyers.
The Apple Watch 2 is touted to have an improved health tracker and better GPS, two important features easily associated with current wearables in the market. Knowing that most brands commonly offer those, Apple came up short offering something different – the cellular connectivity bonus per Apple Insider.
Apple had hoped to use that cellular connectivity as a bargaining chip against Samsung’s recently launched Gear Fit 2. The feature allows the device to function independently without the aid of a smartphone.
Samsung is one up on cellular connectivity
Apple had hoped to do the same, allegedly because the Cupertino company has not been to address the battery consumption issues tied up to cellular connectivity, Mac Rumors reported.
With the feature out, the Apple Watch 2 thus comes up one feature short. For now, the search for a low-power cellular chip is in the works and hopefully such can turn up before the next wearable is due.
One less feature unlikley to be a big blow for Apple Watch 2
Regardless, the Apple Watch 2 is still expected to be an interesting device to consider. Accuracy is tied up to the new GPS chip which is tied up to the fitness and health tracking the wearable will carry.
Aside from those, other rumored features of the Apple Watch 2 will include a barometer, a better battery, and a more rugged (waterproof) mold. The exact release date of the Apple Watch 2 has yet to be announced though there is a chance it may come out alongside the iPhone 7. If not on September 7, a launch could be primed for this Fall.
