Resident Evil 6, Dragon’s Dogma Sales Raise Capcom Earnings

Strong sales from games like Resident Evil 6 and Dragon's Dogma have helped boost Japan-based Capcom's earnings in the first half of the financial year.

The Japan-based developer and publisher company posted strong revenue figures. The net sales are up by 55 percent in comparison to last year's figures, garnering 45,538 million Yen (roughly $570 million) for the company, IGN reported.

"Sales and income for this 6 month period broke the record at all levels," said Capcom, IGN reported.

Resident Evil 6, which got mixed reviews, has shipped 4.5 million units since its launch Oct. 4. It was one of the most expensive projects in Capcom's history, Computerandvideogames reported.

Resident Evil 6 was criticized by fans and did not go down well with the followers as they found the series too chaotic.

"It's our job to create a new gaming experience and to offer them something that's fresh and challenging. We want to make sure that what we do pleases them, but the initial reaction might not always be positive," said Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Resident Evil 6. "We do listen to the fans, but we can't be beholden to them at every turn or I don't think we'll ever make progress in terms of the series' development."

Resident Evil 5 has sold 5.8 million worldwide.

Resident Evil 6 is expected to sell 7 million units according to company forecasts.

The action role-playing game, Dragon's Dogma "enjoyed popularity exceeding expectations in the more profitable domestic market, becoming a million seller," Capcom noted.

Other games that generated good revenue for Capcom are The Smurfs Village and Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.

Some of the upcoming releases from Capcom are:

DmC on Jan. 15, 2013.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U and 3DS, March 2013.

Lost Planet 3 in early 2013.
