FIFA 13 7.4 Million Units Sold; Battlefield 3 Premium Passes 2 Million Subscribers

FIFA 13 has sold 7.4 million units in its first four weeks since its Sept. 25 launch, Electronic Arts has revealed.

EA reports that FIFA 13 is the "biggest sports launch of all-time", and along with Madden NFL, the game  "debuted as one of the two top-selling titles in September in the Western World."

The sales figures were revealed as part of EA's earnings results for the second quarter of its 2013 fiscal year. EA also stated that FIFA's digital revenue passed $115 million in the first half of 2012, which included the sales of FIFA Online 2 and FIFA World Class Soccer. Full game downloads rose 40 percent.

Meanwhile, EA also revealed that Battlefield 3 Premium surpassed 2 million subscribers. In July, EA announced it had 1.3 million members.

"On the strength of our digital extensions, FIFA and Battlefield are the two biggest revenue events in our company's history. Both are well on their way to becoming billion dollar annual franchises," said Frank Gibeau, president of EA.

EA has canceled "NBA Live", as it did not match its other sports franchises like FIFA and Madden.

Talking about the negative reviews that EA's shooter game Medal of Honor: Warfighter received, EA officials said they were "disappointed."

"We're disappointed with the critical reception," said Gibeau. "Internal testing and mock reviews indicated that the game is better than the [Metacritic] score we have right now. We believe it is. However, we are seeing folks out there that just don't like the game."

The company, though, sounded optimistic, with releases of Dead Space 3Crysis 3 and Sim City coming up in 2013.
