Microsoft's Xbox One S arrived earlier this month to mostly positive reviews and much excitement from fans who were looking to upgrade to the latest available console before the year ends. We recently detailed how the company is getting a leg up against its competitor, Sony's PlayStation 4, as the former outsold Sony in July, selling more Xbox One consoles than PlayStation 4's.
The 2TB model of Xbox One S is currently available at $399, with its 500GB and 1TB models coming out later this month. We've also reported on the freebies that players can get their hands on at Newegg, which offer expires tomorrow. Still not convinced? Here are a few reasons why you should get your hands on the Xbox One S for Christmas.
You probably already know that the Xbox One S is 40% smaller than its previous iterations. But more than the significant decrease in size, the Microsoft console is equipped with a 16nm Fin FET process, which is a 33% smaller process than the 28nm SoC in the previous iterations of Xbox One. Smaller doesn't mean weaker, though, as it not only delivers well, but also saves energy. Microsoft's Albert Penello revealed to Eurogamer that it consumes less energy than the original 28nm SoC found in older Xbox One's.
In terms of imaging, the Xbox One S supports 4K resolution video for both streaming and Blue-ray Disc, and HRD color using HDR10. Back in June, Polygon reported that the Xbox One S is equipped with additional raw GPU and CPU power versus its predecessors. The new console boasts of better frame rates and higher resolution, all in a slim, sleek package.
Xbox One S features a cooling system that's basically based on user feedback. According to Penello, they've taken client feedback because they valued what their customers thought in terms of design and function. That's how they came up with the new design that's "more compact, but is reliable and quiet enough to blend into the background," regardless if the user is playing games or viewing media content.
Xbox One S in 2TB is now available, while its 500GB and 1TB versions will arrive at retailers on August 23.
