FIFA 13 For Nintendo Wii U Will Not Have The Same Features As The PlayStation 3 And Xbox 360 Versions

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Matt Prior, producer of the Wii U version of FIFA Soccer 13, said that the Nintendo Wii U version of the game would have two of the game's new features, First Touch control and Complete Dribbling mechanics absence from the game.

"Some of the later improvements on 13 we weren't able to get into the game," Prior told Eurogamer. "So we've got version one. They've got version two."

Prior also said in the article that the game lacks many of the "tweaks and tunes" found in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. The reason for this disparity between the two versions of the game is because the development team had to build the foundation of the game for the next generation console.

"It was a challenge," he said. "Because it's something that's been written for a different machine there's a lot of work getting it to work. There are different processors, CPUs and different libraries. One of the challenges is we have to pick a point in time where the code base is stable and bring it over. That's probably the most challenging thing."

The development team only had 14 months to build the new foundation and create uses for the Wii U's tablet-like controller. Prior also tell the site that the first version is always the most difficult.

"We can't take a feature they're working on because we get it working and they change it," Prior said. "We get it working and they change it, alongside all the challenges we already have. It's not technically feasible. Looking forward we could probably get parity now. But year one is always the most difficult because you're laying the foundation. With us, the vast majority of our time was building that foundation."

The game will also lack Ultimate Team, the game mode that lets gamers interchange players to create the best team possible. But the reason the game is lacking this feature is owed to Nintendo Wii U's online features.

""We don't have Ultimate Team, purely and simply because Nintendo's online is in its infancy," he said. "It's building. FUT took five years to appear on 360 and PS3. They're very complex features. It's potentially something we could do further down the line. But in terms of initially getting the foundation set, that wouldn't have been technically feasible, because it is such a complex mode."

FIFA 13 released back in September for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Wii console, PC, PlayStation 2,Nintendo 3DS, and PlayStation Portable. The Wii U version will release in releases in North America on Nov. 18 and in Europe on Nov. 30.

The PlayStation Vita and Wii version of the game received criticism for lacking the innovation seen in the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Now the Wii U version seems headed in the same direction. What do you think about the FIFA 13 on Wii U? Read our review of the Xbox 360 version here. Comment below...
