'Suicide Squad' Latest, News & Updates: DC Flick Breaks Records On First Weekend; Movie Fares Well Despite Criticisms

"Suicide Squad" made quite an impact in the theaters and fans are wondering the status in which the movie is at in terms of earnings. The numbers revealed the first wave of revenue that the movie generated over the weekend, and it was said it did not at all perform badly.

Being the second and last straw that DC launched this year, "Suicide Squad" had so much at stake in bringing justice to the company. After the crash that was experienced by "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," eyes of the fans were all on the recently launched film which was critically rated.

An all-star cast for "Suicide Squad" subtly gave out the promise that the movie will be a massive blockbuster. With prominent Hollywood names, some believe that it should have scored more on some reviews, but as of late, the numbers have proven the naysayers otherwise.

According to Forbes, Warner Bros.' "Suicide Squad" garnered an astonishing $161 million in five days, burrying "X-Men: Apocalypse" that made $157 million. It only went one million dollars behind the classic "Batman: Returns."

As for their goals, Comic Book Resources reported that "Suicide Squad" aims to reach $300 million to at least go alongside or near the other movies in the box office, like "The Secret Life of Pets." "Suicide Squad" beat the Marvel hit "Deadpool" for an opening weekend margin apart from surpassing "Guardians of the Galaxy" for the opening weekend in August.

For those that are yet to see "Suicide Squad" or not familiar with their origins, the titular group talks of a task force composed of villains which could prove to be useful assets to the government. Most of the members are heavy-hitting criminal meta-humans found within the DC universe, led by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis).

Originally, the faction is labelled as Task Force X. The squad was formed to take on challenges in which the government could take zero blame in case things went south due to the fact that the members are officially villains.

"Suicide Squad" is currently showing in cinemas, starring Hollywood powerhouse Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto playing The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag and more. Stay tuned for more updates and news on the latest trends in both movies and gaming.
