Earlier this year Bioware announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic would be changing its pay model to free-to-play and now the details regarding this switch have been revealed by the game company.
Free-to-play gamers will have access to the entirety of the game's story. Gamer will be able to take their characters to a 50 level cap, But there will be restrictions for gamer who want to play the PvP Warzones and PvE Flashpoints. Gamer will have access to three Warzones, three Flashpoints and three Space Missions per week, but have to purchase a weekly pass to get unlimited access to these features.
There will also be restrictions on the Cargo Bay and Inventory storage, but gamers can remove these restrictions using the new Cartel Coins currency. In order to run Operations under the free-to-play version, gamers will have to buy a weekly pass. There will be a few other inconveniences for those who chose free-to-play like a longer Quick Travel cooldown period. You can read all of the details on the swtor.com webpage.
Star Wars: The Old Republic was developed by BioWare Austin and a supplemental team at BioWare Edmonton, and was released for the Microsoft Windows platform on Dec. 20, 2011.
The game originally had 1 million subscribers, but recently announced that The Old Republic was going free-to-play after the company reported a 400,000-drop in subscriber base. In August, Star Wars: The Old Republic went on sale for $14.99, with a month's worth of complimentary subscription.
