It was a shock go learn that the final installment of the "Divergent" series got canceled. Instead of feeling dismayed about the cancellation of "Ascendant," speculations say that Theo James actually feels relieved since he can distance himself from co-star Shailene Woodley.
'Ascendant' Canceled?
"Ascendant" cancellation has plagued the Internet ever since "Allegiant" hit the theaters and met negative reviews. Instead, creators are planning to make the last installment of the "Divergent" series into a TV series, The Hollywood Reported earlier reported. According to the website's insiders, Lionsgate dubbed "Ascendant" as a TV movie and positioned it as a spinoff series.
It was greatly speculated that the cancellation of "Ascendant" was due to the poor performance of the movie at the box office. "The performance of the last segment of the theatrical did not really create a situation where we could commit the production resources necessary to really make the production we needed," TV Group Chair Kevin Beggs shared in an interview with Variety.
Lionsgate is determined to make "Ascendant" as a TV movie with each season composed of 10 to 13 episodes. This could, later on, be followed by several more seasons, said Beggs. More so, Lionsgate believes that the series will have a solid fan base.
Theo James Relieved With Cancellation?
As of date, Lionsgate hasn't reached out to Theo James for the "Ascendant" TV movie. Although, it was reported that Shailene Woodley was approached already. It appears that everyone was blindsided by Lionsgate's plans.
Agents said that they expect serious negotiations for the "Ascendant" TV movie. The transition from theatrical presentation to TV will involve complete renegotiations of the contracts. Lionsgate has not released any casting announcements as of date.
Now there are speculations that Theo James feels relieved about the "Ascendant" cancellation. As previously reported in Game & Guide, rumors of Theo James getting close with Shailene Woodley have postponed the wedding of the former multiple times.
Now that Theo James wants to finally push through the wedding with his fiancé Ruth Kearney, he needed to distance himself from Shailene Woodley. Also, he now has the option not to reprise his role in "Ascendant" TV movie.
