Avengers 2 Spin-off Ant-Man Release Date Announced

Marvel and parent company Disney announced the release date for director Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" movie, according to a report on The Wrap and several other websites. The film was originally thought to be a potential 2014 release.

The new film based on the Marvel superhero will release on Nov. 6, 2015 and will now likely link with other Marvel film released after "The Avengers 2" in what will ultimately be called Phase-3 of the Avengers initiative.

According to Marvel's official site, "Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym was a brilliant scientist who spent much of his time in his lab. One day he discovered a process in which he would manipulate a newly discovered group of subatomic particles through magnetic fields. Pym tested the serums on himself, and had accidentally shrunk himself to the size of an ant and was trapped inside an anthill."

As the costumed hero Ant-Man, Pym battles the villain Egghead in till he created his own archenemy Ultron, "a criminally insane rogue sentient robot dedicated to conquest and the extermination of humanity," according to Marvel.com. His partner Janet "The Wasp" Van Dyne also joined him in his crusade as a super hero.

Ultron is important to the Avengers' lore because he creates the android Avenger Vision. The android Vision then attacked the Avengers at Ultron's bidding, but he had the human conscience Ultron lacked and he turned on his creator. Vision destroyed Ultron and joined the Avengers.

Henry Pym has also used other super hero alias in the Marvel universe including Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket and the Wasp. In the comics, Pym and Van Dyne were original member of the Avengers super hero team.

"The Avengers 2" will release on May 1, 2015 with Joss Whedon returning to write and direct the film. Have you read the synopsis for Thor 2? Check it out here. Read about Phil Coulsons return here.
