This September, FOX's "Gotham" is returning with a new face with a familiar name. Claire Foley, who played a scrappy, young Poison Ivy during the first seasons of the Bruno Heller series will not be returning to reprise her role. Instead, the iconic Poison Ivy will be played by actress Maggie Geha, who appeared in "All My Children" in 2013 and "Ted 2" in 2015. This will be the first major role for Geha.
Fans may be wondering why the scriptwriters and showrunners behind "Gotham" season 3 decided to go with an older Poison Ivy, leading them to believe that there may be a time jump between seasons 2 and 3. That is not the case, however. Collider reports that as per the synopsis released by the network ahead of the show's September return, Poison Ivy transformed into a young lady when she encountered a monster in Indian Hill, where odd experiments are being conduced by Hugo Strange and Ethel Peabody.
Meanwhile, it seems that the people behind "Gotham" season 3 are looking to bank on the success of another DC production, "Suicide Squad." According to Screencrush, executive producer John Stephens shared during the TCA press tour that FOX show's upcoming season will feature "a proto-Killer Croc version" and most likely a character who "can be a forerunner for Harley Quinn."
The appearance of such characters may no longer come as a surprise to fans of the show, as it is indeed a prequel to the dark world of Batman. In fact, Cameron Monaghan already hinted at becoming the Joker late in season 1. Come "Gotham" season 3, the show will further explore the beginnings of Joker, as well as the beginnings of Batman, Stephens admitted.
Stephens added that he's hopeful for a fourth season, because that's when they plan to set the stage for Joker in a larger scale. He said that viewers will get a glimpse of the "Joker myth" that developed since he first appeared and will establish him as Batman's main antagonist.
"Gotham" season 3 debuts on FOX on Monday, September 19 at 8 p.m. Check out the new trailer below.
