While no one truly knows when the next chapter of Grand Theft Auto arrives in stores, save for Rockstar, it hasn't stopped retailers from making estimates. The latest one to do so is GameStop, whose UK site has the release date pegged at March of next year. Do they know something we don't?
In all liklihood, probably not, as this isn't the first run of placeholder release dates given to the title. Eurogamer Portugal originally reported that it was given a November 23 release date, but later retracted the date on their site. So it seems the date is really anyone's guess.
Grand Theft Auto is easily one of the biggest videogame franchises in recent history, and the next title in the series, Grand Theft Auto 5, is expected to raise the experience to new heights. As of yet, very little is known about the next addition, except that it's set in the Los Angeles-inspired city of Los Santos, last seen in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and players will take on the role of a reformed criminal who finds himself forced back into the game.
Rockstar has been trickling information about the game for some time now, which, while frustrating, does keep most of us salivating for more. To date, all we've seen of the game thus far have been a few screenshots, and the official trailer, which you can check out at the bottom. As they've said on their newswire, their logic for this admirable:
"We don't do this because we 'don't care about our fans' 'don't respect our fans' 'hate GTA fans etc' - precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it."
We'll post more information as it becomes available.
