Halo 4 Release Date: The Game's Launch Trailer To Be Produced By Fight Club Director David Fincher

Microsoft announced today that "Fight Club" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," director David Fincher will produce a live-action trailer for Halo 4's launch, while visual effects craftsman Tim Miller will direct.

The two-minute trailer will debut on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," on Oct. 18 and then will be available on Halo Waypoint and Youtube immediately after the broadcast.

"[Fincher and Miller's] involvement is a testament to the significance of 'Halo' as a pop culture touchstone," 343 Industries' franchise development director Frank O'Connor said in a statement. "We think fans are going to be blown away when they see the final piece."

Miller was the visual effects lead for "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," and worked with Fincher to create the title sequence of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." He said that the duo's goal is to deliver a Hollywood quality trailer.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to direct the Halo 4 launch trailer in creative partnership with 343 Industries and David Fincher, said Miller, who previously worked with Fincher to create the title sequence of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. "Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories. The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief's journey is an honor. Our goal is to deliver a blockbuster, Hollywood-quality trailer that raises the bar for the award-winning legacy of live-action 'Halo storytelling and gets fans stoked for the return of Master Chief."

The trailer is titled "Scanned" and will offer gamers a brief look at the origins of series protagonist Master Chief, as well as the new enemies he will face in Halo 4.The trailer was filmed in Prague.

Halo 4 is intended to be the first of a new trilogy of Halo series games, named the "Reclaimer Trilogy," and the first to be developed by 343 Industries. Master Chief will return as the main protagonist, and the AI Cortana returns as well.

Halo development director Frank O'Connor has recently confirmed that the game is done and has been sent to Microsoft for certification. Halo 4 will release worldwide on Nov. 6 with the exclusion of Japan where the game will be released on Nov. 8. Read more about the Halo franchise here.
