'Pokemon Go' Cheats, Tips & Tricks: Why The Game Is Not Recording Your Distance Travelled And How To Fix It

"Pokemon Go" continues to grow in popularity around the world. At the moment, gamers have actively been pointing out some of the issues that may be addressed by Niantic Labs. Players were particularly concerned about "Pokemon Go" failing to record their distance traveled.

The Bitbag noted that if "Pokemon Go" does not record the total distance traveled by players, they may find hatching Pokemon eggs problematic. According to Reddit user Poncewattle, the game is apparently only sampling the locations that players are in every four minutes or so, which makes it hard to hatch eggs when necessary. The user provided tips and details on how to fix the issue.

According to the Reddit user, "Pokemon Go" player should start the app five minutes before they set out, and keep it on for five minutes after the stop. Poncewattle explained that while playing "Pokemon Go," samples of player locations are taken every four minutes or more, although a recent update showed that the game logs positions every 60 seconds. Players who walked out for two minutes and returned to the same location could end up with nothing. However, the same sample period can also affect the start and end of the walk. If players begin walking immediately after the sample is taken, they can lose credit for a few minutes of the distance they travel.

Poncewattle said that he tried the approach and walked a straight line for six minutes, earning 0.12 km credit in the process. He said that starting the app and immediately going the distance will not have "Pokemon Go" record the location for walk tracking immediately, which he thought must depend on some kind of server-slide polling system. He advised "Pokemon Go" players to start the app and keep it idle for about five minutes.

This will ensure that "PokemonGo"takes a sample of the starting GPS location. He added that walking in a straight line will be most helpful. If players need to take a turn, stay for a while and do other in-game activities like trading before continuing in the new direction. This will allow "Pokemon Go" to continue crediting the total distance traveled. After the walk, keep "Pokemon Go" idle again for five minutes or until the counter update appears, before shutting it down.
