Nothing like walking out of a store feeling like you should hide your purchase. The Delta Six will truly make the walk from your local game shop, through the parking lot to, your car, a long one indeed, as any number of security guards, possibly police, give you "the eye."
It aims to fit the virtual warfare need of every dishonorably discharged foot soldier with the desire to act out as many possible aspects of modern warfare, but who's too timid to even muster the courage to engage in a round of paintball.
Every console has had its own (or in the Wii's case, multiple) gun peripherals. But the Delta Six is actually three guns in one. Remove the barrel and collapse the stock, and it converts from an assault rifle to a Sub Machine Gun. Reverse the steps and extend the barrel, and you have a sniper rifle.
All weekend warrior mockery aside, visually and technologically, the Delta Six is ridiculous. And I mean that in a good way. As the press release details:
Delta Six has a built-in accelerometer, unlike previous attempts at gun controllers this means it can be used with any game and distance and calibration is not a factor in playing. The targeting system is faster with less effort. Minor adjustments are all that are necessary to aim accurately and still feel like you are aiming...It's up to you what you feel like using for that gaming session. Other functions include real kick back at firing and pressure switches. For example aiming in can be activated by the pressure from your cheek hitting the stock, or in non-realistic mode, just press the side of the gun. Other tasks will be activated by performing real life events like hitting the magazine eject switch, removing the magazine and replacing it to reload in game.
In all honesty, words only do so much. Watch below.
"We're more excited about Delta Six than any other project to date. The Wii, and the Move tried but could not make a fun and innovative motion control for FPS games. So we had to," says the peripheral's inventor, David Kotkin. "This is fun for adults, not for gamers younger than 21."â¨
Kotkin plans on marketing the peripheral towards hardcore FPS fans. No date has been announced for the device's release, but when it does, it will cost about $90.
